If furnace concerns are not addressed, your system could suddenly stop working and leave you and your family in the cold. Furnace Age

The typical life expectancy of furnaces is between 12-17 years. If your furnace is 15 years or older it's a good idea to start furnace shopping now. Buying a new furnace isn't a decision you want to have to make in a hurry. Give yourself plenty of time to look through and weigh all of your choices.

Increased Gas or Electric Bills

Furnaces lose efficiency as they age and your system will lose efficiency faster if it has not been correctly maintained. Think of the extra money you're paying to the utility company as money that you could spend on a new, more efficient system.

More Frequent Furnace Repairs

The last couple years of a furnace's life are when your system encounters the most breakdowns. Take a moment to add up the money you've been spending on furnace repair the prior two years - a new system might be a better option.

Strange Noises

Have you heard any odd noises coming from your system? Furnaces start making odd noises at the end of their lifespan. If your furnace is cycling on and off frequently or blowing chilly air, it's time to think about getting your system replaced.

A Dry or Dusty Home

Older furnaces don't humidify or filter the air in your home efficiently. Your home could start feeling stuffy and anyone in the home with allergies may notice an uptick in their symptoms. A few other indicators are: static shocks, drooping plants and cracking furniture.
